By the way, why exactly is this race being held the day before the All-Star Race rather than an hour or so before it like it traditionally always has been? 16. joey2448 posted: 05.16.2014 - 7:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I still don't understand why the winner and only the winner of this race isn't the only one to go on to the All-Star race. Why is it the top two? If the race comes down to the top two racing for the lead in the final laps, then the guy running second just has to maintain to make the All-Star race, rather than having to race the leader to get in. That would make the finish of these Showdowns much more intense! 17. Well, Wise has won a lot of USAC Sprint Car / Midget races and Mader has won too many southern pro / super late model races to count. However, I do agree that they both had / have very little success in Nascar's upper divisions, both are very accomplished drivers in other series. Are they all-star race worthy? No, but you made it sound like they're both untalented, unaccomplished drivers and they are not. 76. To answer some of the comments above: yes, a lot of those votes came from people who have never watched NASCAR before. (I've made a few educational posts, especially about the peculiarities of Talladega racing.) Having said that, these people aren't voting for Josh because they're trying to game the system or anything like that. I really hope bots weren't used. The /r/dogecoin community was vocal about *not* using bots. Did those non-fans vote for Josh to help publicize Dogecoin? Absolutely. However, they also did it because Josh has been such a great person to the community: posting pictures, doing a chat, keeping fans updated, and...well, just being so down-to-earth and appreciative. The Dogecoin users know he isn't going to win, but the sheer joy that erupted on Reddit last night was one of my favorite moments in racing. (My #1 is seeing Harry Gant - my favorite driver - win a Busch series race at Rockingham in 1989. Funny...just looked at the page. Phil Parsons finished second. :) ) 109. I ask because 5 speed transmissions have been the common thing (or at least were) in street cars for decades and 6 speeds are commonplace, and nowadays we are even seeing 8 and 9 speeds on the road." Cost containment. Transmissions and gearboxes are expensive and no real purpose is served by allowing them to become more expensive. Issues like safety and public relations will on occasion trump cost but NASCAR tries mightily (and not conspicuously successfully) to contain the cost of racing. 110. luigistarted06 posted: 05.17.2014 - 1:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I can't seem to find any reference across the internet as to who has been the Sprint fan vote winner over the years, so I thought Id list it here... 2004 Ken Schrader 2005 Martin Truex Jr 2006 Kyle Petty 2007 Kenny Wallace 2008 Kasey Kahne 2009 Joey Logan 2010 Carl Edwards 2011 Dale Jr 2012 Bobby Labonte 2013 Danica Patrick 2014 Josh Wise It's been a very interesting mix, and even more fascinating is that there has never been a repeat winner... 111. numbah10hatah posted: 05.17.2014 - 2:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) *Logano 112. luigistarted06 posted: 05.17.2014 - 2:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Thanks, my auto correct failed me 113. That probably would have been a repeat winner BUT Junebug won the Showdown in dominating fashion when he probably would have won in 2012. All of those choices are pretty interesting, even Wise. That was amazing when Kahne got the fan's reprieve then won the All-Star race. Wallace and Petty won their votes after actively "campaigning" for them, Petty especially because Coke promised a big donation to the Victory Junction Gang Camp if the fans gave him the nod. 115. I do hope I am very wrong about that and that he will go the whole distance while letting someone else finish last in the race. At least last place in the All-Star race pays more than last place in the Sprint Unlimited. 117. Chad's Hair Plugs posted: 05.17.2014 - 7:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm glad I was wrong. 118. In 1996, Michael Waltrip transferred and won. 6 years later... In 2002, Ryan Newman transferred and won. 6 years later... In 2008, Kasey Kahne transferred and won. 6 years later... In 2014, the winner might be Bowyer, Allmendinger, or Wise if the numbers are the deciding factor. 119. murb posted: 05.17.2014 - 7:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) In All Star qualifying, we are so far 2 for 2 with driver mishaps on the pit stops. Both Brian Vickers and Tony Stewart missed their stalls and had to back up (and Stewart may have killed his transmission). 120. I'm really hoping this doesn't end up being Dave Blaney's last race of this season. The rate he and the #77 team are going, they're going to have to start making the field consistently to have a shot at seeing next season. 130. 23andJoe posted: 05.18.2014 - 4:21 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #13 sponsor: GEICO Military #98 sponsor: Dogecoin Digital Currency 131.
