The drivers who have most often finished ahead of him in races this year are already in the all-star race. Almirola is the highest driver in points who is not in the all-star race and SHR has been the organization to beat so far this year. 4. Big transfers aren't new and I like seeing that back. In the 1990s they took the entire top-5 a few times, Michael Waltrip famously squeaked into the main event from a fifth place finish in 1996 Winston Open than won the whole shebang later in the night outta nowhere. 7. However, they are taking four through and after those top 5-6 positions the rest of the field will fall off on pace. ...unless NASCAR's restrictor plate formula works and allows for the top 2/3rds of this field to stay within 4 or 5 seconds. 10. Speaking of car numbers, the #24 has competed in every All Star main event since 1994. The pressure is on William Byron to keep that streak alive. David Ragan (2) has the most Cup wins of all drivers in this field. 20. That's a decent check for a short distance race close to home, with minimal effort. Payouts are secret now, but I'd assume they still make it worthwhile for a team to show up even if they don't expect to race into the main event, since they need a decent car count here for TV. 21. Is not winning a Cup race right out of the gate really that much of a deal breaker?" Yes. 116. #BowmanNation posted: 05.19.2018 - 8:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 112 and 113. While chase did get in by both name and talent, he REALLY needs to win a cup race and fast if he wants to live in the sport 117. I grew up in a generation where rookie drivers simply didn't win races. A couple guys did it in 81 when I was a little older and I remember Earnhardt in 79 winning and in championship contention and then it was completely unheard of when Davey Allison won twice as a rookie in 87 running only 2/3 of the schedule. I am more than accustomed to rookies taking time to win. I just feel like there are clearly far more talented young guys in the sport right now and even in the lower series. 118. #BowmanNation posted: 05.19.2018 - 8:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Remember Kyle petty, that's where chase is headin if things continue like they are 119. Late career Kyle Petty was obviously a disaster but I wouldn't exactly be making that comparison as some sort of put down for Chase. I haven't have a favorite driver since Bill Elliott retired and I am pulling hard for Chase and if ends up having a career like Kyle Petty I would say he had a pretty nice career. 120. Not to discredit AJ at all, but I think it's a little messed up how they have the stage winners finish dead last in the official results. In all honesty, they should just give all three first places rather than doing it that way (Jones, Chase, Menard would still finish 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on). I know this is just a qualifying race to the big one, but at the end of the day, do we even consider Bowman or Suarez real winners at all or whoever wins the stages just luck out on earning an "All-Star Open victory" that AJ Allmendinger achieved? 121. As far as the official records go, it is what it is I suppose. 123. Anonymous posted: 05.20.2018 - 12:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @118, Leave Kyle Petty alone. Kyle was at his best when he didn't drive for Petty Enterprises and he did a respectable job for Wood Brothers and Felix Sabates. I do think Kyle would've done better than he did outside of Petty if Felix didn't have Pontiac as a manufacture. What happened was Felix allowed his organization to fall behind after the 1993 season and Pontiac came up with a new car that was late. Kyle had 3 problems at Petty Enterprises starting with I don't think they had the equipment for 2 cup teams when it was him and his dad racing for them back in the 1980s. I think the resources were spread thing since Petty Enterprises didn't have 2 race teams run full time before Kyle came alone. The 2nd problem is Kyle Petty during his 2nd stay at Petty Enterprises as a driver is him taking a management role and his focus was not there as a driver. The 3rd problem is I don't think Kyle's heart was into racing a race car after his son Adam died. 124. They're making improvements. 125. It would've been a mess if he had restarted in the lead. 126. He finished above BK, Premium, MBM, and Ware, nothing impressive in the slightest. 127. Scott B posted: 05.20.2018 - 1:30 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 120- I actually think the stage racing makes a lot more sense in the context of the open than it does in a regular points race. Each segment is being treated more like an individual race, if you win you achieve the objective, which is to advance to the main event. This is more entertaining than rewarding the first, second and third place cars at the full distance. Yes, it is imperfect from a statistical view. Suarez and Bowman being listed in the last two positions would throw average finishes off if you counted them in season stats. Having three winners is even weirder, but I'm OK with giving them eqaul weight. I guess thst does fall into the "it is what it is" category for me, being an exhibition. Regular season, I'd want a more purist approach. 128. bill413 posted: 05.20.2018 - 9:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (2) actually, Alex Bowman won the open and Daniel Suarez would be second, because they move on after the first 2 rounds 129. possum posted: 05.20.2018 - 11:24 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @120 - the records are always sorted by laps completed. Bowman only completed 20 laps, so he shows up last on the list. There's really no other way to sort the list that wouldn't be confusing as all get out. What would probably work better would be to consider the 3 stages as 3 seperate races - D main, C main, B main - and list the finishing order for each one seperately. (that, of course, would be seen as confusing by the folks at NASCAR and Fox/NBC who insist on aiming everything at the "casual fan" who's never seen a race. But somehow every non-fan I've explained the Chili Bowl to has immediately grasped the idea of heats, mains, and transfers). 130. Corey posted: 05.20.2018 - 1:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The only thing I would change about the results, would be to note that they were winners of those stages. (Stage 1 winner, stage 2 winner, etc.). Another option would be to post the results of all three stages on one page and. Example, Stage one results with Bowman as the winner, below that is Stage 2 results with Suarez as the winner, and the same for Stage 3. 131. So my question is this, for the segment/stage winners; Do they really "win the Open" or is that just for someone who raced the entire race and won it (aka AJ Allmendinger?). 133. GoPM21 posted: 05.20.2018 - 7:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @129 There's races on here where a disqualified driver completed all or most of the laps, but is still listed as finishing last. 134. Mannoroth posted: 05.21.2018 - 12:12 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) These stages are pretty stupid, because if you have a dominant car in this race, but someone is still faster than you, you will get rid of him, because he wins 1st or 2nd stage and will be gone, because he advanced. And then it's just a piece of cake to win it as well. That is typical NASCAR - has to ruin everything that isn't broken... What the hell is wrong with the system that top 3 finishers after 50 laps make the All Star race plus someone who wins the Fan Vote? And by the way - race can't have 3 winners... Winner takes it always all. In this case - the trophy along with the fact he advances. 135. Anon posted: 08.28.2018 - 8:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #23 sponsor update: Anderson Uniform 136.
