Curtis Turner goes on the books as the winning of the very first race of
NASCAR's convertible division.

I think it is safe to say that Joe Weatherly led the first ever lap of
the division

Was the margin of victory in miles or minutes? If it was in miles, how
could they tell?

It looks like it is miles - Turner is credited with winning by more than
a lap.

my dad finished sixth in my uncles 55 buick.those were real men raceing
at over 100 mph and trowing it to a sand dune at the end of a 2 mile
strait away!!!!

As entertaining as it sounds, I believe Herschel White's sponsor was
"Cincinnati Race Bowl" not "Rage Bowl" - as Cincinnati Race Bowl was a
track at the time that hosted MARC events.

Only the top 13 took qualifying time- Curtis Turner started 14th as he
was the first to not take a qualifying lap.

23rd place finisher Don Oldenberg was the 1955 champion of this series
which at the time was ran under a different banner, that series was
acquired by NASCAR in the 1955-56 off season, very few drivers actually
made the switch from the old series into the new one, he was one of that
select few
