A large crash took out 9 cars in the early stages of this race,
including all of Pete DePaolo's cars. Ken Rush's car was split in half
in the crash, but amazingly he escaped serious injury.

Excuse me, Jim Paschal's car was the one ripped in half, he replaced Ken
Rush early in the race as a relief driver.

Note concerning the first caution period: Red Flag lap 30 for 50 minutes
for cleanup the track. Jim Paschal #75 blew a tire and result the big
nine-car smashup.

Relieved driver:
-Buck Baker relieved Bob Welborn on the 85th lap.
-Curtis Turner relieved Roger Baldwin on the 30th lap.
-Tiny Lund relieved Whitey Norman on the 30th lap
-Jim Paschal relieved Ken Rush on the 1st lap.
-Fonty Flock relieved Glen Wood on the 1st lap.

Note: race postponed one day due to rain.

Jimmy Thompson ran a quite interesting sponsor of "Terrizasoff" in this
race. If you don't get it at first, try reading it aloud.

This was the only race in which the sponsor (which doesn't seem to have
any connection to a company, rather it's the name of the car) made an
appearance. Ironically, the car crashed out at lap 180.

The first running of the rebel 300, would run convertible cars until
1962 but gave grand national points from 1960. Would be ran all the way
until 2014. Even would be renamed to the southern 500. Was moved to
where the southern 500 was on labor day weekend.

The DNQ isn not shown in the results table for all drivers from p28 to
p45 as you can see here in Ralph Moody's 1957 season results:

So it should be included in the 1957 season table for all drivers shown
in DNQs list

The DNQ is still not shown in the results tables of the 1957 season for
all drivers from p28 to p45 as you can see here in Ralph Moody's 1957
season results:

So it should be included in the 1957 season table for all drivers
