The obvious guess would be they are from somewhere not too far removed from the Chicago metro. 4. He won six races, finished second in points twice and no one seems to know what his first name is. It wasn't even mentioned in his obit. Unless his first name really is just 'A'. 6. rm posted: 10.19.2018 - 4:22 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Spen - he did just go by A. That was not his given first name but he went by and raced as A. Arnold. 7. Dan posted: 10.19.2018 - 8:41 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) According to the late ARCA flagman John Potts, the "A" stood for "Alphonse". He posted this on a message board about 10 years ago: "His first name was Alphonse. One night when I was calling Louisville results in to the paper, I gave his name, and the reporter said, "What's his first name?" I said he didn't use it, and added that when we wanted to get his attention, we just said, "Ay." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
