I think that this was the first race I ever attended....on a Friday
night as an 11-year old boy. I remember that, though I have lived all my
life in Randleman, NC, I was a big Curtis Turner fan. If this is the
race I'm thinking about, Turner spun out on the very first lap and spent
the rest of the race trying to catch up....until his car gave out about
halfway thru the race. I also remember that qualifying was held late
that afternoon before the race, and that there was a lake or pond in the
infield of that dirt track. Can anyone help me out with any of this?
