Interesting that Richard Petty drove car number 2, and Fireball Roberts
drove car number 42.

Interesting to see Fireball Roberts driving for the Petty's in the first
place. Actually, between the Petty family, there are five cars entered.
Richard's uncle & Lee's brother, J.H., had three cars entered, and Petty
Engineering (which I presume is the Convertible division wing of Petty
Enterprises), has two cars entered.

the pace car to pack the new dirt track surface.

@3 - odds are Lee was originally planning to run that race. When Lee and
Richard both ran in the same race in 1958 Richard was usually in the #2
(easier to just paint out the 4 than to put a completely different
number on it). In 59 when they built cars specifically for Richard they
started using #43.

Bob Welborn closes out the 1958 season with his eighth win of the year
as he caps off his championship. Larry Frank finished second in both
this race and the title hunt and did not win a race all season.
