The first start for 22-year-old Bill Rexford, who would go on to win the
championship one year later.

I have a ticket stub from this race. Not bad for the 4th ever race in
Nascar. Kinda cool seeing the word "nascar" and 1949 on a ticket. And
Curtis Turners 1st win also.

Why did Sosebee get 100 bucks while the guys around him only got 50. He
didn't lead lap or anything like that.

Gober may have led in the race. You'll notice only 61 of the 200 laps
are accounted for.

Langhorne Speedway, far from an oval, was actually a gigantic circle,
and thus the fastest one-mile track of its day. It was thus extremely
dangerous...

I knew Ken Schrader was old, but this was NASCAR's 4th race ever, and he
finished 22nd in his own car. Was Dick Berggren his crew chief?

Hahaha!!!

Gober Sosebee probably got an extra $50 for qualifying second. I don't
think leading a lap would get you any bonus money since Bob Flock led 1
lap and got an even $1,000.

Steve, that is Ken Schroeder in his only NASCAR race. He may be related
to Dorsey Schroeder, a very prominent road racer.

Supposedly Len Brown became the first driver to compete in a convertible
in this race: he drove a 1947 model car.

Wrong race, Graham.

Incidentally, there were six drivers from Trenton in this race. Tommy
Coates did the best of them, finishing 23rd.

Anonymous, Graham Clayton said that Ethel Mobley drove a 1948 Cadillac
convertible in the 1949 Beach & Road Course race.

In looking at the results of this race only 14 of the 45 drivers had
raced in any of the 3 previous races...Obviously winning the race was
more important than the championship

Al Keller, Al Bonnell and Lou Volk get a Top-10 finish in their debut
NASCAR Strickly Stock race.

Three women in this race, including two in the top sixteen. Pretty
impressive for 1949. Also love that there was a Hudson, Kaiser and Nash
in the race and many drivers won $25. Different times!

Just a shoutout to Lou Volk, who finished tenth in his first NASCAR race
ever. It was one of the oldest cars in the field. It must have been
insane to handle that thing. It's a shame we only saw him in two NASCAR
races.

Walter Minx takes the biggest L of the race, when his right rear tire
and his left front tire blew almost simultaneously, sending his car out
of control and rolling over twice.
