It may be a little bit strange, but this 200 mile race at the legendary
Daytona Beach paid the least points in 1950 season. The winner got only 175:

1. Harold Kite 175
2. Red Byron 157.5
3. Lloyd Moore 140
4. Al Gross 122.5
5. J.C. Van Landingham 105
6. Tim Flock 87.5
7. Bob Flock 70
8. Otis Martin 52.5
9. Buck Baker 35
10. Fonty Flock 17.5
11. Curtis Turner 14
12. Jim Rathmann 10.5 -? AAA driver may not have earned any points
13. Roscoe Thompson 7
14. Cotton Owens 3.5
15. June Cleveland 3
16. Lee Petty 2.5
17. Al Keller 2
18. Frank Luptow 1.5
19. Will Albright 1
20. Jack White 0.5

This was Buck Baker's first career top-10 finish.

It was also Harold Kite's first win in his first start. Though to be
fair, it was only the ninth race in what is now the Cup series.

I believe this was the race where Louise Smith wrecked the family car on
the first lap and was terrified of calling her husband and delivering
the news.

If Red Byron got 157.5 points, why ain't he in the 1950 point standings?

Nevermind, I found the answer. Red Byron was stripped of points in 1950
for racing in non-NASCAR events.

Gober Sosebee won the 100 mile Modified race the day before, Fireball
Roberts was second followed by Red Cummings, Cotton Owens and Joe Jernigan.

Pontiac's first NASCAR Cup Series race, two drivers by the names of Dick
Clothier and Will Albright, Clothier did not finish, while Albright's
end result is unknown, as he was only 7 laps down. What a start to a
company that became so well known in NASCAR and America in general.

Nobody mentioned this being Fireball Roberts' first ever race, even
after 13 years since comment #1? Well, this is where it started for this
NASCAR legend.
