Tim Flock takes the win in Harold Kite's Lincoln after Kite won the prior outing at Daytona Beach. 11. JSPorts posted: 05.05.2020 - 12:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) That's an interesting stat. I assume that this is also the first time a car number won back-to-back as well, then? 12. Ian posted: 05.05.2020 - 2:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @11 Yes, that is correct. The #22 and #7 both won 2 races each in 1949, but they were not consecutive. 13. possum posted: 05.05.2020 - 7:03 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) That was an interesting era, when people were trying to figure out if a big engine/heavy car or a small engine/light car was the faster. A '50 or '49 Ford would have used the 239ci flathead, a '50 Mercury would have used the 255ci flatty and weighed maybe 300 or 400 lbs more than the Ford, and the Lincoln would have used the 337 flathead (a truck engine in it's other life), with maybe another 300lbs over the Mercury. 14. It just adds another element of strategy: could a team bring the right car at the right track to run well? It would add to the strategy of a race weekend and probably shake up the results more often, too. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
