Jimmy Florian passed Curtis Turner with 35 laps to go and won the race with a flathead engine. Drivers of overhead valve Oldsmobiles and Plymouths couldn't believe and it took few hours of post race inspection to declare the win. Btw. Florian was not wearing a shirt because of hot weather and after this race NASCAR mandated drivers to wear a shirt. This was another 200 point race and overall standings after 7 races looked like this: 1. Lloyd Moore 752 2. Lee Petty 649 -103 3. Curtis Turner 633.5 -118.5 4. Jimmy Florian 580 -172 5. Tim Flock 545.5 -206.5 6. Glenn Dunnaway 432.5 -319.5 7. Bill Rexford 369 -383 8. Bill Blair 339.5 -412.5 9. Red Byron 315 -437 10. Clyde Minter 300 -452 11. Dick Linder 283 -469 12. Bob Flock 272.5 -479.5 13. Dick Burns 220 -532 14. Chuck Mahoney 203 -549 15. Art Lamey 200 -552 16. Jim Paschal 180 -572 17. Harold Kite 175 -577 18. Buck Barr 160 -592 19. Picture and bio here: http://www.studebakerracing.com/biography.html#Gayle%20Warren Apparently he was convicted of reckless driving twice between 1948 and 1949 and had his license suspended. Ann Slaasted is a female driver. 7. NASCAR inspected the car but at around 4AM Jimmy Florian was officially the winner. 10.
