Roscoe "Pappy" Hough, age 46, raced against son Lee. Pappy was an outstanding Midget driver before WWII. 4. J Louis Frey is correct about this being the first father son combo competing in a Grand National race. Also Dick Burns was "badly shaken" after he went off the track and hit a light pole (causing his crash DNF). 5. oldschoolracing519 posted: 12.05.2016 - 2:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) the date of this race should be July 2 6. They have various newspaper clippings that back this up, an ad for this race that states the date of the 9th as well as a clipping of the race details from the 10th that uses the word "yesterday" http://racersreunion.com/community/forum/stock-car-racing-history/25019/racing-history-minute-july-2-1950 9. possum posted: 01.16.2021 - 6:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @8 - makes you wonder if July 2 was the scheduled date and it rained (with the race postponed to the following Sunday). Almost certainly weather records for Rochester are on-line somewhere, but with the modern AI driven search algorithm on Google it's impossible to find them. I note that one of the linked press clippings says NASCAR ran warm-ups at 1pm, qualifying at 1:30, and started the race at 3pm. If only today's NASCAR could be that efficient. 10. There does not appear to be any weather-related reason why the race would have been postponed from July 2, 1950, which was a dry and pleasant day. https://www.wunderground.com/history/daily/us/ny/rochester/KROC/date/1950-7-2 11. thog posted: 01.17.2021 - 2:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't know, but if clippings and advertisements say July 9th, they obviously know something we don't ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
