The car starting third is clearly the #41 1/2 of Bill Blair, and the car starting fifth is clearly not the #9 Lincoln of Ed Samples. The number on the car does look like #87 (altho it's fuzzy enough it could be almost any number starting with 8). OTOH, Baker didn't start any other races before mid-year (except the Beach). The video linked by thog doesn't show the start, but it does clearly show a #87 in the infield (which appears to be a 1949 Plymouth, altho Baker ran a 1950 Plymouth in other races). Possibly the car failed on the pace laps, and so he wasn't recorded as starting the race? That would explain why the car is sitting pretty and clean in the infield. 16. I know it may have been interchangeable back then. 17. Anonymous posted: 08.05.2020 - 10:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @15 both videos car is an Oldsmobile (#87). 18. thog posted: 08.06.2020 - 7:13 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) That is so weird. Good eye fellas. 19. possum posted: 08.06.2020 - 6:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @17 - yes, you're right. From the back and side the Plymouth and Olds are similar, but even as fuzzy as the race start video is, the grill is a better match for the Olds. That means it's Bob Griffin's car. Which means it could be someone other than Baker driving. But it still doesn't explain why it's in the field in 5th starting spot, but doesn't appear in the race record. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
