This explains 4 finishers from 34 starters. 3. Spen posted: 09.08.2011 - 12:34 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) I'm sure there were more than four finishers. Herb Thomas was certainly running: according to the newspaper report, he pushed Mundy across the line. We just don't have information about whether or not anyone else was running at the finish, because the data usually only reported the status of the top five. 4. It doesn't say who, but it does say that there were five finishers. I assume they were Fonty Flock, Dick Rathman, Frank Mundy, Oda Green, and Herb Thomas if the stats and the comment above are true. 5. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 08.03.2015 - 12:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Note for visitors: we have found some informations missing and/or correction until now on the website (concerning Bill Majot). But there are still a lot of missing information. 6. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 09.25.2015 - 10:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Note: Norm McCarthy was relieved by Herb Thomas (running to the finish). According to Fielden's book Forty Years of Stock Car Racing, "Marshall Teague took over for Herb Thomas on the 41st lap and brought his Plymouth home 12th. Thomas, who became fatigued when he called for Teague's help, later hopped into Norm McCarthy's Plymouth, finishing 8th. NASCAR's point system enabled relief drivers to pick up extra points, pro-rated on the percentage of laps they actually drove." 8. Only five cars finish the brutal event on the one-mile dirt oval." But two pages later as a photo caption, it mentions that Herb Thomas won the July 15 event at Heidelberg in which five cars only finished. As stated in my previous post, I think both of these are errors based on incorrectly assuming that all the cars without a status DNF'd. 9. While the event was a muddy mess the reason the series never returned is that auto racing at the track was discontinued after the 1951 season. It continued onward as a horse race track until 1969 but later closed for good and was demolished. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
