Fonty Flock, who was leading the points standings at the time, was
running 2nd when he lost a wheel and flipped. He suffered a dislocated
shoulder and would sit out the next race at Columbia.

The outside walls at Martinsville have never been moved, so if this race
had used the current measurement of .526 miles, the race distance would
have been 105.2 miles, and an average speed of 45.091mph

Track surface must have been in real bad shape looking at the pole
speed, race speed and attrition.
