He ran in a backup car for Frank Christian, as Roscoe Thompson was already driving the #14 that Fonty Flock had been driving before his injury. Fonty Flock was relieved by Jack Smith. According to Greg Fielden's Forty Years of Stock Car Racing, Flock would have received 152 points for 7th, but instead received 58 points while Smith received 94 points because the relief driver rules back then awarded points based on the percentage of laps they ran. Based on my calculation, Flock must have run about 38 laps, which makes sense since Jack Smith had fallen out by lap 30. 3. nascarvd/racing-reference.info posted: 02.18.2019 - 11:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Note: the other race scheduled at Occonnechee, N.C. (100 miles and purse: $4,000.00) on the same day, April 20, has been canceled due to lack of entries. 4. His starting position should be 24th. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
