First and only start for Stuart Joyce, who came home with an impressive 8th. 2. At this time in NASCAR there were two schools of thought, one which held that a big car with a big motor, like a Packard or DeSoto or Lincoln, would be the best; and another that held a smaller, lighter car with a smaller engine, like a Hudson or Plymouth, would be the way to go. With Hudsons winning most everything, by 1953 the big cars were mostly gone, and the chance of having 12 makes in the field went with them. 10. Must have been sponsored by the local dealers, not the factory. 15.
