The race may of took place in Oswego not Owego. For more information on
this mix up, read the comment on the wine creek racetrack page.

The race was won by Tim Flock, and driver Jim Reed, ran the whole race
in second gear. This was the only race to take place on this track.

This was the first-ever Cup race on the Fourth of July

Only NASCAR race for the Turcott brothers from Bremerton, NY.
Interesting to note that six of the retirements were due to tires. Was
the track very abrasive and hard on rubber?

so much debate about this race, all the history books say this race was
at Shangri-La Speedway, Owego, NY, now for some reason its getting
confused as being in Oswego, NY and then its the talk about the track
name there.

The 7/5/52 edition of the Star Gazette from Elmira, New York says "Tim
Flock of Atlanta Ga won the first prize money of $1000 in the 200 lap
Grand National race at Shangri-La Speedway yesterday afternoon."

Also the Headline was "Georgia Driver Wins at Owego"

Not "all" of the history books, @6.

Greg Fielden has the race as it's shown here, which is precisely WHY
it's shown that way here. However given all of the other accounts it's
pretty clear that an update should be made to get the track name right.
