Good morning.

Please verify, if possible, if this was the race that a tire came off
the car of Dick Passwater and rolled into the first several rows of the
grandstand. My father was struck by the tire, breaking his collar bone
and shoulder blade. I was knocked to the ground by the impact but was
uninjured.

This incident is confirmed in Vol 1 of Greg Fieldens' Forty Years of
Stock Car Racing (page 96)

My dad, Barney A. Smith,51 Plymouth, #99, still living (86 yrs) and
praise God is still mentally great and drives everyday and he remembers
this incident like it was yesterday. True story! Lots of great stories
from my dad about all the races.
