After struggling through most of 1952, Donald Thomas was put in one of
his brother's Hudson Hornets at the end of the season and won his only
career race.

Thomas was the first real "young gun" of NASCAR racing.

For many years, Donald held the record as the Cup series youngest
winner. Kyle Busch eventually took that title.

Also, this was the first victory for a car #9, it would take 31 years
before #9 again graced victory lane at Riverside with Bill Elliott driving

Robert Weisemeyer is disqualified after only 9 laps of his lone NASCAR
top-level start. Does anyone know the reason for his DSQ?

Had the NASCAR playoff format been in effect throughout Cup divison
history, Donlad Thomas would have been the firt driver to "win and
advance" into the next round...Without the win, Thomas would have been
in 7th place after this round...Fonty Flock would have been the driver
affected
