Note: Several drivers failed to receive points for the Harnett race for
failing to post entries by specified deadline. This new rule, clearly
stated on each entry blank, will be enforced strickly at all NASCAR
special events for 1953. Those who race and did not receive points at
Harnett were: Coleman Lawrence, Fred Dove, Ray Duhigg, Harold Nash,
Harry Bennett, Weldon Adams and Bill Blair, the Daytona winner !

Perry Allen Wood in his book "Silent Speedways of the Carolinas" said
this was an absolute snoozefest of a race.

In Fielden's "40 Years" books, it says there was one caution. Johnny
Patterson spun out, which caused his car to dig in and gently roll onto
its side.

Actually it says there was one "mishap" (not caution), and notes that
the car got going again.

Herb Thomas and his Hudson Hornet turn in a fittingly "Fabulous" drive
to score the victory, leading flag to flag from the pole as the Cup
series races on the dirt at Harnett Speedway for the first and only
time. It is was the first of 12 wins this year for Thomas on the way to
his second Cup championship.

Today this track is just a wooded area but the outline of the speedway
is still visible in aerial photography.

@7 I take it you have the same book then, haha. But yeah you figure a
crowd of spectators running onto the track would be caution though,
however it seems like Fielden's book implies that he continued (although
maybe not for a very long time since he got P28) as Patterson was "on
his way again" after the spill.
