RaceFanX posted: 06.29.2018 - 3:59 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) In the early 1950s, when NASCAR's record keeping wasn't as great, there are several cases where the driver who won the race was credited with leading only the last lap because it is least can be confirmed that led that one. For decades California racer Danny Weinberg was credited with leading only one lap in his entire career, the one that gave him a victory at Hanford in 1951, until better records for that race turned up in 2015 revealing he actually led 126 laps in that race. 10. gary24fan posted: 04.05.2020 - 12:24 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) This link provides a bit more info. The track they were running on was not in very good condition, and the Flocks decided to wait out qualifying until the end in the hopes that the conditions would improve (they did not), and by the time they were prepared to run their laps NASCAR called time on qualifying. The final lead change happened with 10 laps to go according to the newspaper clipping shown here, so Petty led at least 10 laps: http://bench-racing.blogspot.com/2013/04/april-19-1953-lee-petty-rules-rough.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
