yes a scoring error handed the race to lee, even most people in
attendance thaought herb had won. these errors were quite common in
nascar early days.

Herb Thomas began a streak of 24 straight races finishing no worse than
sixth starting with this race. That isn't a typo.

This may be the last time a race winner didn't lead a lap on the
national tour until Brett Moffitt at Iowa on June 16, 2019 after Ross
Chastain's Truck Series win was stripped.
