"Two weeks later, the only NASCAR Grand National (now Nextel Cup) race
was held at the facility. The PAVING WAS NOW COMPLETE, the dust was
gone, but rain was the spoiler for Lee Petty, who appeared ready to
charge to the front before the race was red-flagged."

Pensacola Fla, owned by Frank Bielarski Fred was from Pensacola Frank
was from Mobile Ala, Fred finished tenth in this race,

The Cup series' only visit to Five Flags Speedway, a track still active
and home to the famous Snowball Derby.

At the halfway mark Petty edged Dick Rathman (for second) only to fall
back to third when the rain started, as he did not have windshield wipers.'

Hard to believe Five Flags had a Cup race just two weeks after it opened
and yet they never are back to this Southern short track staple.
