Actually. Rapid City, South Dakota is the home of the fastest half-mile
race track in the upper midwest!!!!

Two drivers with the shortest names in NASCAR history, Ted Lee and Leo
Ray, both drove in this race.

Only career Grand National starts for three of the drivers in the field:
Leo Ray, Dick Fellows, and Ray Springer. Ray was local to Rapid City
where the race was held, Fellows from Minnesota and Springer from
Illinois. Several other drivers in the field had midwestern roots or
hauled in from California for this event, as only a small core of series
regulars made the trip.

The average speed was almost 2 Mph over the pole speed? Was that normal
back then?

This was local driver Bob Laswell in this field, not Robert Caswell.
