Note: Speedy Thompson and Fonty Flock completed the entire distance
without a pit stop, but Flock's tires showed the wear of the long grind
over the lightning-fast hard-packed dirt course. First start of Ray
Duhigg since suffering a broken neck at Langhorne on June 21st.

Is it documented what caused Buck Baker to fade to 6th?

I do not have any specific information. Only that he made a pit stop to
put gasoline.
