A few drivers (Dick Rathman, Fonty Flock and Elton Hildreth in particular) might be off by as many as 130 points due to the incomplete nature of the results for race 31. 1. Herb Thomas 6001 (Herb took the lead on week four, and never looked back.) 2. Lee Petty 5712 (-291) 3. Dick Rathman 5099 (-902) 4. Buck Baker 4892 (-1109) 5. Fonty Flock 4503 (-1498) 6. Gober Sosebee 2404 14. Curtis Turner 2328 15. Fred Dove 2180 (Dick Passwater should be here, with 2038. He's not listed in the final standings, so I'll assume he was stripped of his points.) 16. Donald Thomas 1892 (Herschel Buchanan would have had 1651, but he left to return to the IMCA mid-season.) 17. Bub King 1614 (Ray Duhigg would have had 1612. Not sure what he did.) 18. Gene Comstock 1491 19. Bob Welborn 1406 20. Pop McGinnis 1373 21. Ralph Liguori 1291 22. Speedy Thomson 1171 23. Arden Mounts 1008 24. Johnny Patterson 968 25. Ted Chamberlain 961 26. Joe Bill O'Dell 582 33. Buck Smith 577 34. Dub Livingston 559 35. Elbert Allen 529 (Ronnie Kohler would have had 527.) 36. Don Oldenberg 526 37. Bob Walden 523 38. Ewell Weddle 488 39. Eddie Skinner 458 40. Bill Harrison 450 (Really should have been penalized, as he was an IMCA regular. I really don't understand how this works.) Tie for 41. Mel Krueger 385 Ralph Dutton 385 42. Jimmy Ayers 384 43. Johnny Beauchamp 381 (Same boat as Harrison.) 44. Ted Lee 376 45. Buddy Shuman 353 46. Lucky Sawyer 349 47. Virgil Livengood 346 48. Ermon Rush 339 49. Jim Reed 333 50. Ralph Sheeler 321 And now, I really need a nap. 1954 won't be up nearly as quickly. West coast races make things very annoying. 3. Spen posted: 05.23.2012 - 5:49 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ayers through Reed are actually 43rd through 50th, not 42nd through 49th. And Sheeler shouldn't have been on the list at all. And I hope that the only error I made. 4. kup posted: 05.24.2012 - 1:18 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) UPS - Universal Points System - after all races of 1953 Cup Points for a driver = His Distance /devided/ His Average Finish Dis/AvFn = Driver = KM-Miles / AV-FN 598 Herb Thomas 3107 / 5,2 459 Lee Petty 2201 / 4,8 263 Dick Rathman 2002 / 7,6 199 Buck Baker 1550 / 7,8 164 Tim Flock 1774 / 10,8 5. Then equal points goes for every next pair of cars/drivers: 3+4, 5+6, etc. This TTSS adds to races not only feud, but also a co-operation. Every year/season can have 2 "gold" champions, then 2 "silver", 2 "bronze", etc. The basic idea is to compare current race/year system (aka "deficit") with TTSS (aka "plentiness"). No need to have 3 (triple) or more winners, as 2 is just oke to compare the root. 11. For instance Five Flags Speedway, which is today known as a traditional ARCA short track in Florida. The Tri-City Speedway has only another cup race in 1955 and then never again. Hickory, Richmond and Raleigh had their first cup races in 1953. 14. possum posted: 01.06.2021 - 6:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @13 - actually, ARCA has rarely run at Five Flags, and it certainly wouldn't be called a "tradition". Five Flags usually runs various forms of late models, and is mostly famous for the annual Snowball Derby in early December. 15.
