The majority of the drivers in the older cars in the race were local drivers (Musclow and Tharrett for example) taking the opportunity to compete against some the "big guns" 3. Lee came in to refuel, and in an effort to preserve the win, rushed out of the pits so fast that gasoline actually ignited as he pulled away, and he ran the last two laps with the car on fire as he beat Thomas back to the line. Herb Thomas ran a 29.70 in qualifying, breaking a track record set by Curtis Turner at the inaugural event at the track in 1950. 12 cars ended up not finishing under power. With that said, the articles above printed before the race lists every driver entered into the race. Some are entered under different numbers or car models, and many aren't listed at all.
