64 cars at "The Big Left Turn" must have been quite a sight. Looks like

There was a ten car pileup on the fourth lap.

Harvey Eakin's car went through the fence and plummeted down an
embankment, with enough force to result in back injuries for him.

There may have been a "big one" at the start of the race, but one
newspaper says that out of the 6 crashes that occurred, none of them
were "serious" and that the only injury suffered was a Harvey Eakin's
sprained back.
