The Championship 4 (using the 2016 format) would have been Lee Petty,
Herb Thomas, Buck Baker (all on wins), and Dick Rathman

With the win, Lee Petty clinches the 1954 championship under the 2011
points system without using the chase.

This race was held two days after Hurricane Hazel made landfall in North
Carolina and tore through Virginia, New York , Pennsylvania and Canada
