Around for two years and literally showed up one year and was simply gone after the second. Yet his drivers and his program dominated racing for those two years. He was way ahead of his time. But he also was a serious pain to work for. There are times he supposedly had drivers airplaned to him just so he knew what the driver was doing. Because of his dominance he became hated among the fans as well. He's an interesting character to read about. 3. Fireball's crew chief that day was the legendary Red Voit. 8. The Modifed-Sportsman race was won by Banjo Matthews in a 1940 Ford Modified, followed by Earl Moss, Bill Widenhouse, Milton Hartluff and Herb Thomas. The race was called after 76 miles because of a wreck and the fact that the course was crowded with spectators. Speedy Thompson wont the 100 mile Sportsman race followed by Richard Blackwell, Fireball Roberts, Lee Bliss and Bill Myers. 9. What do we have without rules? I would love to know what advantage, if any, the modified pushrods would have provided. 11. His name was Fireball Roberts, and he's in the Hall of Fame now. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
