When he came back three laps behind, Junior Johnson was leading the pack. Johnson blew a tire on the 190th lap and Flock took over the lead for the windup. Johnson's tire trouble left him in fourth place in the final rundown. The race, in temperatures in the mid-80s with high humidity, was marred by several blowouts and numerous minor accident which slowed the pace. 2.
