Charles Munsinger's crash is apparently what brought the race to an end, but since he is not listed as a driver here, my best guess is that he was driving in relief for Don Oldenberg as Oldenberg's crash is the closest in the lap count to where the newspaper says the race was called.. According to the clipping, the race was called on lap 160. Again, my best guess is that is when the race-ending crash took place and the field circulated under caution for several laps until it was officially called. https://twitter.com/RacingSCRL/status/1288330994270056450/photo/1 6. Especially when he is in Chrysler products the rest of the year and including the race before and the race held the next day. This is an era when you had one maybe two cars for the entire year and in many cases more than 1 year. 7. It may have been trying to reference 1st, 2nd, and 4th as being in Oldsmobiles. But it lists the first three finishers, the fact that they are all from N.C. and then says "All the Tar Heels drove Oldsmobiles." Jimmie Lewallen is also a Tar Heel and also in an Oldsmobile. 8. possum posted: 07.29.2020 - 8:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @6 - of course, it's possible he was in someone else's car. If his own car was being repaired borrowing someone else's and painting a #42 on it would be a quick way to make the race. (that said, Petty had virtually no attachment to the #42 and happily drove cars with other numbers on many occasions, so it's not that likely he'd bother to renumber someone else's car). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
