I believe this was the first race at Martinsville on a paved surface
after previously being a dirt track since its opening in 1949.

Also, the first start for one of the early 60's best independents, Jimmy
Pardue, although he had owned cars before. He finishes last. Jim
Thompson makes his last start.

Tim Flock is listed as having led through lap 73, but having only
completed 70 laps. How's that possible?

able to find NASCAR's official race report.

If Tim Flock hadn't blown up while leading this event, the #30 would
probably still have zero wins in over 1,000 starts
