Virgil Martin, Herb Hill and Carl Hoover make their only starts. Tom
Francis makes his first of two starts. John Lansaw and Bob Ruppert make
their first starts. Jim Murray makes his last start.

Bill Hyde finishes second in his first start.

Also the debut for car owner Bill Stroppe.

"Unexplained" for Lloyd Dane... one of the best DNF reasons i've seen so
far on this site.

Yes, even more curious because Dane led the first five laps, including
going from fourth on the starting grid to the lead on lap 1.

Doesn't fit the profile of a premeditated start and park.

Although Dane and Jones got together, I'm going to guess that something
on Dane's car was damaged as a result of the contact that, no pun
intended, they couldn't explain at the track?

My grandfather who was 16 yrs old at time of this race, was a pit crew
member in this race for Lloyd Dane. I showed him these results and he
just told me while sitting on his front porch that Lloyd was so
infuriated after the spin from the contact, which tore his fender off
that Lloyd walked across the track during the slow down period (caution
im assuming) and left the racetrack without any explanation to race
officials. Not sure if anyone can confirm this but my grandfather's
memory is till sharp. Lloyd sounds like a modern day Kyle Busch

That would make sense as far as why the official report says
"unexplained" instead of "accident."

It would also suggest that maybe Lloyd's car wasn't damaged badly enough
to force it out of the race, that it was the driver's choice to call it
a day.

Johnny Kleper broke his arm in this race, same source as @8, in what
would be best described as the "Big One" when another driver ran over
debris on the track and caused a massive dust cloud which caused
visibility issues for the leaders
