Journeyman and independent Ed Negre's best finish in his long career. He
never finished a race on the lead lap, but came close on this day.
Herb Thomas was Carl Kiekhaefer's designated driver to go out west
during those races that season.

Caroll and Wilson both rolled, Caroll after blowing a right front tire
and Wilson after hitting the fence.

he led at least 47 laps.
