Evidently, Nascar once held a race at Soldier Field. Crazy.

Soldier Field was a combination race track and football stadium until
the early 60s. Just like Madison Square Gardens was a velodrome (race
track for bicycles), that is all but forgotten.

Hi! I have track photography photos for this race and the following
raced there that night and were not mentioned. Truly many of these
drivers were fast enough to make this feature. My photos show #26 on the
2nd row pole coming to the flag in the starting line up. Not mentioned are:
#12 Joe Weatherly 56 Ford, #76 Larry Frank 56 Merc. #10 Roger Baldwin 55
or 56 Ford, #49 Welborn 57 Chevy, #149 sister car to Welborn's 57 Chevy,
#22 Glen Wood light colored 56 or 55 Ford, #71 Dick Joslin, 56 Plym. #21
Glen Wood dark colored 55 or 56 Ford, #86 Don Oldenberg 56 Buick, all
convertibles.
Names were all painted on cars.

To poster #3 the race that you photographed was a separate event for the
convertible series.

There were a lot of brake failures in this one, and apparently both
Thomas and Vesler had brake failures as well.

Based on the newspaper clipping @7 linked, a more accurate Average speed
is 61.034 mph.

Also, some (minimum) laps led that can be inferred:

Billy Myers: 1

Fireball Roberts: 7

Jim Paschal: 1
