Speedy Thompson was the class of the field leading every lap from the pole until his engine blew. With Thompson on the sideline, Lee Petty proceeded to dominate, leading every lap until a differential problem with 7 laps to go put him out. With the other dominate cars out, Jim took the lead and led the last 7 laps for the win Every lead change in this event was due to the leader dropping out! Local OK driver Augie Howerton scores a top 10 in his only NASCAR start Jack Zink, another OK driver, makes his only NASCAR start and finishes last, which in this race was a decent 12th place 2. This also happened six other times; 1953 - Hickory 1959 - Nashville 1961 - Richmond 1964 - Savannah (race 20) 1964 - Savannah (race 57) 1964 - Myrtle Beach 4. You can check the results in Unclassified Races. 5. Andy U posted: 12.08.2018 - 7:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) OK, if you want to visit this track it is on the OK State Fairgrounds of today. On the far east of the grounds there looks to be a tractor pull lane. That must have been the backstretch becasue the USGS 1956 map show a big building right there opposite the trackto pull place. That had to be the grandstands. TO make it easier, the track covered what is now a parking lot east of the Bennett Event Center. The track was enclosed by what is now May Ave, Gordon Coioper Blvd, Land Rush St and Gen Pershing Blvd. Side not...to the west is now Oklahoma State University. It does not even show up on teh map from '56. I guess the Cowboys relocated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
