Some call it the "National Park of Speed." Hope NASCAR fans specifically and stock car racing fans in general from Wisconsin and around the Midwest support this event. See you there. 11. chris o posted: 07.23.2012 - 11:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The race where flock beat out his old boss Carl K 12. Not true, this race was in the 1956 season...generally races held in November/December were credited for points for the next season in this era of NASCAR. 14. The only thing it says about rain is that the start was delayed by it. Doesn't look like the actual race was ran under rainy conditions. 17. It has this race and in a couple photos it definitely looks like to me that they are racing in the rain you can see puddles and rooster tails coming off the cars. They make reference to terrible weather a slick and damp track Curtis Turner at one point slid off the track and into some hay bales. 18. It was definitely a very different NASCAR 60 years ago! 19. Corey posted: 08.25.2017 - 1:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think that's because road courses generally deploy local cautions when crashes happen. It was a common practice that in all forms of motorsports. 20. Mile501 posted: 08.25.2017 - 2:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Oh I know, but in today's NASCAR, they are eager to throw a full-course caution for just about anything. I was just thinking about how much things have changed. 21. The rain stopped before the race started but the track was still wet when the green flag dropped. Because slick racing tires didn't come out until the mid-60s, the standard grooved tires were okay for the wet. From a newspaper: "Action was delayed by a good 45 minutes because of a disconcerting, steady rain which pelted the course and threatened to make the asphalt dangerously slippery and slow. By the time the race started, however, the rain had stopped and only for the first couple laps did cars whip up a spray." 28.
