First Grand National win for versatile Paul Goldsmith. He won the 1953
Daytona 200 (the classic springtime motorcycle race), and he competed in
several Indy 500s; his best result was 3rd in 1960.

Graham: Nah, at New Mobile in '51, Red Duvall and Don Oldenberg both ran
Packards, and both finished in the top five. Duvall's third place run
was the best ever finish for a Packard.

Shame to see Hudson, the make that dominated NASCAR GN racing in the
early 1950's, end with a whimper in this race.

This is also the last race for Packard in the GN division.
