The first reaces in Watkins took place on the streets of our town. That was the track! It's great seeing Nascar races here. I'm so proud of the way our track has improved. A road track like Watkins is the best way to access the skill of the drivers. 2. Anonymous posted: 12.21.2013 - 10:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Interesting remark from Johnny Allen regarding this race: "...Watkins Glen, we finished fifth, and had to run the track backwards because the cars were set up to go left and you couldn't change the fuel pick up. You'd keep runnin' out of gas. The big problem was no escape roads. For really tough turns that were downhill, well, you're goin' the wrong way. The escape road is the other way. It made it a really fun, exciting race." 8.
