This was the last event at the beach-road course. A late afternoon low
tied forced the race to start at 3 p.m.

the only win by the 1958 pontiac. in fact 1958 model year cars won only
four times in their three year eligibility window.

Earl Moss was originally scheduled to drive the #31 in this race, but
fell ill from a case a measles the week of the race, leaving Doug Yates
to sub for him.

Curtis Turner's Holman-Moody #26 Ford was one of the many "Zipper Top"
stock cars being raced at this time that was built with a removable
roof, allowing it to be run in both NASCAR's Grand National and
Convertible divisions. Turner drove the car in both series during this
race weekend, winning the last convertible race on the Daytona beach
track on Saturday before the team put the roof on for Sunday and he
finished second in this one.

This race actually began with a military flyover courtesy of the USAF
Thunderbirds demonstration. What an amazing contrast of the new jet age
with the old, retiring beach racing.
