He DNQ'ed in his own entry then was offered a driver swap into Don Taylor's Chevy, which was an early attrition casualty with tranny problems. 20. simonracer posted: 08.01.2016 - 5:47 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) Just noticed that NASCAR literally organised this race the day after the 500-miler at Trenton. One has to wonder what the hell they were thinking having two 500-mile races in a row, especially considering it was the first time they'd organised 500-milers at either Riverside or Trenton (and the first time they'd ever had a race at either of those places.) 21. Spen posted: 02.23.2018 - 7:33 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm pretty sure it had a lot to do with the way Kiekaefer's team ended. Chrysler products as a whole weren't seen much, aside from Johnny Allen's non-factory Plymouth. 24. Scott B posted: 02.23.2018 - 12:05 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) The end of the Kiekaefer team was a factor, but also the introduction of more and more OHV V-8's in lighter, cheaper cars. Brands like Ford and Chevy closed the gap in horsepower to the point where they could compete very well, especially in an era when most of the races were on short tracks and often on dirt. Still, it does surprise me that the entire 1957 season would pass without a Chrysler entry. I was not aware of that stat. 25. RaceFanX posted: 02.23.2018 - 7:18 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Lee Petty makes it to both of this weekend's 500-mile races and scores a top-5 in both of them, picking up a third at Trenton and then making it across the country to Riverside to place fourth here. Petty Enterprises deserves compliments for being able to field a 1957 Oldsmobile for Petty on both sides of the country for him in the same weekend, that's quite a feat for 1958. 26.
