Essentially a Pacific Coast field of drivers, but counted for Grand
National (Cup) points.

Series regulars chose to run the race in Birmingham, Alabama scheduled
on the same day for ease of travel.

This was the only Grand National race Lee Petty didn't run this season
out of 51 events on the schedule. As a side effect, it was the also the
only race this season without an Oldsmobile in the field.

Jerry Johnson should be listed as "out", the Sacramento Bee said he got
his car repaired after a flip in qualifying, started late, and "fell
apart" on lap 93.
