Note: Speedy Thompson was out in front on the 148th lap when he stopped
to refuel. Lee Petty taking advantage of this, pushed his Olds to the
front and as late the 180th lap held a wide lead. Thompson narrowed the
gap and the two dueled side by side down the backstretch before Thompson
passed Petty on the inside of the fourth turn. Thompson clinched the
race on the 196th lap when Petty stopped to refuel. Petty finished 24
seconds behind Thompson.
