One tough '57 Ford! Ex DePaolo built car stayed competitive for 3 years.
It seems the smaller & lighter Fords and Chevys were initially better
than their predecessors. Those little 283 & 312's ran pretty good. It's
even more impressive to me when you consider the newer cars had bigger
engines. '58 Chev @ 348, Merc @ 368, Olds @ 374, '59 Pontiac @ 389, &
T-Bird @ 430.

According to NASCAR Chronicle, the stands burned to the ground just
before this race started, actually not even an hour before. Everyone was
fine, but the fans did have to line up along the fence to watch the race.
