Scoring cards were re-checked after the protest of driver who was initially thought to finishing 2nd ... his dad. Welcome to big time racing, son! 2. Lee told his son after the race that they needed the money. 7. 88&4Fan posted: 01.27.2016 - 5:08 pm Rate this comment: (1) (2) Possibly the biggest example of karma ever in NASCAR... Lee Petty whines loud enough and gets NASCAR to take the win away from his own son and give it to him, which would've been Richard's first career win. But thats okay. Richard only went on to win 200 races after that, also known as nearly 4x the amount Lee won. 8. TeamDCRfan posted: 12.09.2018 - 9:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Richards unofficial 201st win 9. In addition to the 200 he won and this one he was also initially flagged as the winner of the 1978 fall race at Atlanta before a rechecking of the score cards revealed Donnie Allison as the real winner. That one was a bit more obvious than this one though, right from the get go everyone thought Allison was winning and that the King hadn't really won the race. Still hard to believe Lee did this. I'm glad to hear it was more of a money thing than anything else. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
