This race at Charlotte's Southern States Fairgrounds was the best finish of his short career. He also ran some ARCA races. He died when he crashed into a tree on the road coming home from a local Saturday night short track race in Houston in the late 1960's. Oddly enough, in this, his best finish, he ended up 6th out of 29 cars. I had the 6th highest grade point average out of 29 students in my senior high school graduating class of 2004. 2. Jarrett was running fourth a the time of the driver change. It was the 2nd half of the story of where Jarrett had to win at Myrtle and this race to cover the $2000 check he wrote on Friday for the car. Apparently Johnson had heard the story, and wouldn't accept any $ for driving the car. 3.
