Slowest 500 race in history but Bobby Johns had the lead until he spun
off with less than 10 laps to go. Tom Pistone was wearing a life
preserver and a mask to prevent of having going through Lake Lloyd after
one driver ended up there.

First race for a then unknown Hardware company called Lowe's sponsored
Jimmie Pardue, the company would become more well known for sponsoring
another driver named Jimmie in the 2000s
