Also, Richard Petty became the youngest winner at Martinsville, at 22
years, 9 months, 8 days. To this day, Richard holds the record for the
most wins at the track with 15.

believe it or not the songwriting team of doug and teshia williams wrote
a song about massey's second place finish. the aptly titled "massey's
run " failed to earn any grammys in the year it was first performed.

Wow. Look at some of the names who DNQ'd for this race. Jack Smith,
Cotton Owens (granted he was a better car owner than driver, but still),
Speedy Thompson, David Pearson, Banjo Matthews... incredible

Reportedly, Bobby Johns had his victory hopes squashed when the crew
forgot to put a quart of oil in the engine on his final pit stop. The
engine blew soon after.
